Close Encounter with an Actual Bookseller!

Yesterday I crawled out of my introvert’s cave, grabbed my proofs of SHE MADE A MONSTER and made my way to Bel & Bunna’s Books in Lafayette. I’ve been really nervous about doing marketing and promotion, but Bel McNeill was so kind and enthusiastic about my upcoming picture book debut that I felt at home immediately. She promised to put me in touch with other new authors who’ve already gone through the first-time publishing process, AND—the big news!—we decided on a date for a book launch event at the store: Saturday, September 22!

Bel & Bunna’s is a really lovely children’s bookstore, with comfy beanbags and benches, big bright windows, and of course, floor-to-ceiling walls of fabulous books. I have an interest in YA books as well as picture books (more on that in another post, maybe) so I picked up a copy of THE HATE U GIVE while I was there. About time I read it, since everyone is talking about it–and Bel recommended it highly, too. Looking forward to some good reading on this rainy weekend!

And now I’ve taken that first step–whew! Time to ponder my next marketing move….
